80% of temples and historic architecture in 02 Bhaktapur and Kathmandu Durbar Square was destroyed after an earthquake. The walls on either side of the Royal Palace in Kathmandu ago, now the museum, almost completely collapsed.
On 25/4, the country of Nepal and some neighbors have suffered a terrible earthquake, destruction of life and destruction of historic architecture, which has since decades, centuries, today only remaining rubble. The disaster has left more than 8,000 people dead and thousands wounded, the Government of Nepal has declared a state of emergency. Less than three weeks later, the country had to pay an extra powerful aftershocks, caused a great loss to the people and the cultural property, which completely paralyzed Nepal.
According to a preliminary assessment of UNESCO, the earthquake has caused major damage to the cultural heritage of Nepal, particularly the Kathmandu valley - a world heritage site, known to the ancient temple, the security towers and the old houses - more than half of them have collapsed or severely damaged.
Kathmandu is a complex with 7 groups of monuments and buildings, representing the achievements of history and art. This valley is famous in the world with 3 Square: Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan, Buddhist temple and stupa Swayambhu and Bauddhanath, Pashupati and Changu Hindu temple Narayan.
Kathmandu - the political, trade and art of the country, has existed through the centuries as a "theatrical presentation" colorful cultural, artistic and traditional, surrounded is a terraced hills, dotted with clusters of brick houses with red roofs. According to legend, this place has been covered by a lake until the Bodhisattva Manjushri intellectual sword raised and divided into six pieces cut, sawed and mountains to drain, and dry up lake and created the first settlements.
Mr. Christan Manhart, UNESCO Director in Kathmandu has described the damage to the cultural heritage of Nepal, especially in Kathmandu: "Half of the temples in Patan Durbar Square has collapsed. Eighty percent of the temples and historic architecture in Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur and was destroyed. The walls on both side of the old Royal Palace, has collapsed and we could not save artifacts and antiques inside " .
Therefore, at the request of the Government, UNESCO has begun assessment and planning at the cultural heritage. "We are assessing the condition of the monument inside Kathmandu Valley and has appointed a rescue team to the area where the temple is on the verge of collapse when the rainy season approaching," - Mr. Manhart says.
As noted by UNESCO, but not the last earthquake caused landslides, as expected, but serious cracks in the southern cliffs that can cause landslides, rock avalanche danger when the rainy season comes in 3-4 weeks.
Have to say, after the earthquake, tourism - main source of Nepal, has been dramatically reduced. Many hotels in Sagarmatha National Park (in East of Nepal, including the Himalayas and part of the south face of Mount Everest) have been destroyed, especially in the second earthquake aftershock center located at the foot of Mount Everest. The campsites for visitors is also no longer climbing.
The earthquake in 1934 had destroyed 20% of homes and 25% of the population Kathmandu here. 81 years later, the buckling Nepal suffered this terrible destruction. Apparently existed for centuries collapsed in a night, national strength, once again, to be expressed in solidarity, determination to get up from the ashes to rebuild the country for generations later.
